Vintage Fordite - USA

Fordite, also known as "Motor Agate," is a unique material formed from layers of automotive paint that built up over time in car manufacturing facilities. These layers were repeatedly baked in high-heat curing ovens, creating a hardened, durable material with vibrant color banding. Once considered factory waste, Fordite is now a highly collectible lapidary material.

This cabochon features a nearly perfect bullseye pattern, with concentric rings of black, white, red, and deep blue radiating outward from the center. The striking symmetry and crisp color separation showcase the accumulation of countless layers of enamel paint, each representing different vehicle colors used in American auto production. The smooth, domed shape enhances the depth of the layers, creating a dynamic visual effect.

With modern painting methods shifting to electrostatic application, authentic vintage Fordite is becoming increasingly rare. Each piece is a unique relic of automotive history, prized by collectors and jewelry designers alike.
