Paraiba Tourmaline Crystals in Quartz - Brazil

Rare specimens with vivid Paraíba tourmaline crystals naturally embedded in quartz matrix—an exceptional pairing of vibrant color and mineralogical contrast. The neon-blue to blue-green tones are a result of copper and manganese content, which distinguish Paraíba-type tourmalines from all others. The intense saturation and glowing appearance are hallmarks of this highly coveted material.

Paraíba tourmaline was first discovered in the late 1980s in Paraíba State, Brazil, and immediately revolutionized the gem world. The original site, near São José da Batalha, produced only small quantities before becoming nearly exhausted. Subsequent finds in nearby Brazilian states, as well as Nigeria and Mozambique, have extended the term “Paraíba-type” to include copper-bearing tourmalines with similar optical characteristics.

What makes these specimens especially desirable is the presence of fully formed tourmaline crystals frozen in clear to milky quartz. These are not only visually striking but also scientifically valuable for studying crystal growth habits and inclusions. Such pieces are rarely cut—valued instead for their natural beauty and uniqueness in the mineral collector’s world.
