This sculptural malachite stalactite displays the rich green coloration and fibrous texture characteristic of well-formed secondary copper minerals. Malachite forms as a result of copper-rich hydrothermal fluids interacting with limestone or other carbonate rocks. In cave-like or void environments, slow mineral deposition leads to the creation of stalactites—elongated mineral formations that develop as dissolved copper precipitates layer by layer over time.
What makes this piece particularly interesting is its elongated, segmented growth, reminiscent of biological forms. The surface is finely textured with radial microcrystals, giving it a soft, velvety luster under direct light. Malachite from China—especially from the Liufengshan Mine in Anhui Province or the mining regions of Hubei—is known for producing exceptional stalactitic and botryoidal specimens.
