From the Morogoro district of Tanzania, this newer lattice sunstone material has become an important source since the original Australian material became scarce and increasingly expensive. The lattice is strongly directional, appearing and disappearing as the stone is moved, which makes each piece especially interesting in hand.
The grid-like effect is caused by reflective internal inclusions, commonly hematite or goethite, producing strong golden to coppery flashes across the stone
