Petrified Wood Cabochon from Hells Canyon - located along the border of our home state Oregon and Idaho, USA!
Well-defined rings on this one
This wood turned stone is from ancient Sequoia trees that formed during the Cretaceous and Miocene epochs. The wavy lines you see are the trees annual growth rings when it was alive. The small cavities/pockets you see are believed to be spots of dry rot that have since filled with silica and micro-crystals.
It tells a story of the ages!
