From the famous Hells Canyon region between Oregon and Idaho, this is a slab of exceptional petrified wood formed from ancient sequoia trees dating to the Cretaceous and Miocene epochs.
The wavy lines are the tree’s original annual growth rings, while the small cavities are areas of dry rot that later filled with silica and microcrystals.
Excellent material for cabochons. Shown both dry and wet to simulate a polished finish.
*Finished cabochon shown for reference.
