Helenite - Washington State, USA

Helenite comes with one of those great gem-world legends: that it was made from ash from the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens. GIA later confirmed that story isn’t actually true, but like Bigfoot, the myth has become part of the fun.

This is original Paulsen family material, who held the patent for Helenite. It’s a beautiful facet-grade glass that cuts remarkably pretty gems, and this teal is especially good.

Slight natural micro-bubbles are to be expected
