Fire Agate from Arizona, showing the signature iridescent play of fiery orange and gold. This variety of chalcedony is unique to a few regions in the American Southwest and northern Mexico, with Arizona producing some of the finest material. The effect is caused by layers of iron oxide within the stone, which create shimmering flashes of color that shift as the stone is moved in the light. Unlike opal, fire agate’s play of color is permanent and cannot be replicated synthetically, making it highly prized by collectors.
