Three cat’s eye chrysoberyls from Tunduru, Tanzania, each cut as a high-domed cabochon to bring out a bright, centered eye. The stones show soft smoky-green to pale olive tones with a clean, silky glow that moves as the light shifts.
The cat’s eye effect (chatoyancy) is created by fine parallel inclusions inside the chrysoberyl that reflect light into a single sharp band. Chrysoberyl is prized not only for this phenomenon, but also for its durability (Mohs 8.5), making it one of the best gemstones for everyday wear when cut in cabochon form
