This sculptural specimen features vibrant blue cobalt-bearing spinel crystals naturally embedded in a contrasting white quartz matrix. The cobalt content gives these spinels their signature electric to cornflower blue color, a rare and highly prized variation within the spinel group. The crystals appear in tight clusters and isolated grains, many showing excellent form and saturation, making this piece both visually striking and mineralogically significant.
The host matrix is massive quartz, common in the Luc Yen District of northern Vietnam, where a diverse suite of gem minerals occurs in marble-hosted deposits.
Luc Yen is world-renowned for its richly mineralized marble terrains, and cobalt spinel is among its most iconic exports. These spinels are seldom found in matrix, making this complete, three-dimensional display specimen a rare acquisition for collectors or mineral enthusiasts interested in Southeast Asia's complex gem geology.
