This species of garnet is well known and highly sought after for it's high dispersion!
The faint lines you see as the gem turns are transparent internal graining - which means you are looking at the edges of growth planes within the crystalline structure as it was forming. Slightly included barely visible to the unaided eye and so sparkling!
