Japanese Rainbow Garnet

Rainbow garnet from Nara Prefecture, Japan, displaying the metallic luster and spectral surface flash that make this material so distinctive. Even in a small size, the stone shows the unusual iridescent effect that has made Japanese rainbow garnet a favorite among collectors. This phenomenon is caused by light interacting with microscopic layered structure near the surface, creating the shifting rainbow display for which the material is named.

What makes these even more special is the insight from our supplier:  "The guy who polished them will no longer be doing that, so what you have and what's left in Japan is all there will be.'".... No more...Guy is very elderly. When he polished them he was adjusting angles so the rainbow is visible not just from the top but even from the side. He planned every stone to give it maximum rainbow performance"
