Ammolite - Canada

Ammolite from Canada, cut as a low cabochon with a tight, mosaic-like pattern. Electric green dominates the surface, broken by a fiery core of saturated orange that glows from within, while darker carbonized boundaries trace the natural plate structure. As the stone moves, the colors shift and flash, giving a stained-glass effect that’s unmistakably ammolite and distinctly Canadian in character

Ammolite is an organic gemstone formed from the fossilized shells of ammonites—marine creatures related to the modern nautilus that lived roughly 70–75 million years ago. Its vivid color comes from preserved microscopic layers of aragonite within the shell, which diffract light to produce natural iridescence. Gem-quality ammolite is found almost exclusively in southern Alberta, Canada, making it one of the few gemstones with a single primary global source
