Fordite, also known as "Motor Agate," is a unique material formed from layers of automotive paint that built up over time in car manufacturing facilities. These layers were repeatedly baked in high-heat curing ovens, creating a hardened, durable material with vibrant color banding. Once considered factory waste, Fordite is now a highly collectible lapidary material.
This cabochon features an off-center bullseye pattern, with concentric rings of red, white, blue, and black layered within a teardrop-like formation. The surrounding fine lines of gray, black, and white create a striking contrast, giving the piece a fluid, organic appearance.
With modern painting methods shifting to electrostatic application, authentic vintage Fordite is becoming increasingly rare. Each piece is a unique relic of automotive history, prized by collectors and jewelry designers alike.
