Umba Sapphire with a Garnet Inclusion

Umba Sapphire with Garnet Inclusion – Tanzania

An exceptional oddity from the Umba Valley of Tanzania, this sapphire rough contains a  garnet crystal encapsulated within its structure—a rare and fascinating geological occurrence. Such inclusions happen when two different minerals crystallize in close proximity under specific conditions, and one becomes trapped within the other during formation.

The host sapphire, a vibrant orange-yellow typical of Umba material, while the embedded garnet displays rich red under magnification and light. Inclusions like this are of particular interest to gemologists and collectors alike, as they offer insight into the environment and sequence of mineral growth. Specimens of this nature are seldom encountered and are prized for their scientific and aesthetic value
