Polished slices of petrified wood from the region surrounding the ancient city of Bagan, Burma. These specimens retain the structural patterns of the original wood, replaced over millions of years by silica and other minerals. The result is a fossilized material with layered browns, tans, greys, and occasional dendritic or cellular textures. Customarily polished in this form, they are ready for final shaping into cabochons.
Bagan was the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to 13th centuries and remains one of the most archaeologically significant sites in Southeast Asia. With over 2,000 temples and stupas still standing, it connects each piece of this material to a place of extraordinary cultural and geological history
