Oregon Sunstone

Stunning Multi-hued precision cut pear Oregon Sunstone

Oregon Sunstone is a rare gemstone that was honored as Oregon's state gem in 1987. Before the discovery at the Ponderosa mine, the term "sunstone" referred to feldspar minerals with a glittery effect or golden sheen, a phenomenon known as aventurescence.

Depending on the abundance and size of the copper trace elements and platelets within the gem material, the color may vary from colorless to yellow, orange, brown, pink, red, green, blue-green and multi-colored. Copper can create a range of shades from green, yellow, orange to red.

This gorgeous gem is extra special with almost all the hues in one stone. Teal to orange to red and everything in between reflected off the expert faceting. There is also a fascinating feature of this gem in particular of a transparent growth plane that you can only see for brief moments as you turn the gem in the light. Unique and worthy of center stage in your collection.
