Oregon Sunstone is a rare gemstone that was honored as Oregon's state gem in 1987. Before the discovery at the Ponderosa mine, the term "sunstone" referred to feldspar minerals with a glittery effect or golden sheen, a phenomenon known as aventurescence.
Depending on the abundance and size of the copper trace elements and platelets within the gem material, the color may vary from colorless to yellow, orange, brown, pink, red, green, blue-green and multi-colored. Copper can create a range of shades from green, yellow, orange to red.
This gem's color palettle is a lovely yellow with a crimson heart that reflects beautifully off the expert faceting. Top eye clean and a must for any world class collection.
