Golden Yellow Fire opal from Oregon’s Juniper Ridge deposit
Unlike the more commonly known Mexican fire opals, which can be translucent to transparent, Juniper Ridge material is known for its rich body color.
Fire opal gets its color from trace amounts of iron, and unlike precious opal, it typically lacks play-of-color—relying instead on body tone for its visual appeal. Oregon’s deposit is now largely inactive, making high-quality stones like this increasingly hard to source.
